10k_walkI will be getting out my Hi-tec Hikers again later this month for a 10K Memory Walk to raise funds and awareness of Alzheimer’s.   Every penny raised will make a huge difference and will help fund research into the cause, cure and prevention of dementia to improve treatment for today, and search for a cure tomorrow.

The reason this is so close to me at the moment is that my mother is suffering with this illness and it means that day-to-day activities are gradually being forgotten.  She has been able to live independently for many years with vascular dementia with a support network, but as I have found from my own experience, the waiting lists can be long for voluntary support, and there is little in the way of medication to resolve this.

Earlier this year, I climbed the highest mountain in England, Scarfell Pike!  I now want to take on a challenge that means something to me personally, and walk with people who have been affected by this illness.  And of course, not forgetting my lovely mother, this is my way of giving something back to her for the year’s she’s looked after me.
