Ravel continues to be inspired by the world-leading collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum to bring you a second exclusive collection, created for AW17. The sensational AW17 range features four styles including a patterned boot, high heeled court, gold trimmed sandal and decorative slipper.

The new collection takes inspiration from the V&A’s incredible Theatre & Performance collections, including 18th century theatre costume and embellished papers for music scores. A baroque influence reigns supreme in the form of opulent materials and antique finishes. Oversized bows, gold patterned linings and sumptuous velvets add a rich depth to the range.

Inspired by a night out at an opera house in the 18th century, an era that saw an explosion of audiences flocking to performances, the Ravel designers took inspiration from the V&A’s holdings of 18th century theatre costume and gilt embellished papers used to cover music scores. The patterned lining of the shoes and outer fabric for the boot draws influence from a decorated printed paper that may have been used as a cover on a music score.  The motif on the courts takes its cue from the elaborate embellishments found on a theatre costume worn in private court performances in Italy.

The Ravel design team worked closely with the V&A to identify this unique fragment of printed fabric, which has been artfully re-imagined.
