Keeping warm staying cool
Published: 08 January, 2009
At the end of a long day, it's a lovely feeling to slip into a pair of warm, cosy slippers. But, slippers have never quite mastered the "cool" factor, pined for the new age man. That is, until now. For Autumn/Winter 2008 we see the debut of Homeys, officially the world's first, "cool" house shoe.
As with all great ideas, they fill a specific need. The team at Homeys were brand buyers and considered themselves pretty stylish guys - but alas, with the trend of stripped floors, a Europe-wide obsession, were sufferers of cold toes; a common problem. Following extensive market research, the fact that there were no slippers that even resembled stylish, nor even a slipper-based brand to buy into, they decided there was nothing for it but to create their own.
With their unique design and style-driven look, Homeys are not merely a foot warming device, but a statement of interior cool. A product that will sit well under a pair of G Stars and be functional enough to survive a run out to the bins. They have a distinctive teacup logo that represents the whole ideal of the brand; laziness is no bad thing.
The Homeys ethos is based on the security of the home and the secret love of doing absolutely nothing. Following this through with anti logos; No Decorating, No Dog Walking, No Shopping etc the brand encourages the sloth in us all and suggests staying in may well be the greatest thing we all enjoy.
The range has six styles, all ironically with names from the classic 1980's movie, Breakdance. Crazy Legs, as it suggests, is a psychedelic, purple-based, marble effect fabric, while Turbo is a bold red and white dogtooth check. The base style of the Homey remains the same, while the upper design can be anything the Homeys team see fit.
Currently available on line at the homeys.co.uk site or through the Office shoe chain, Homeys are looking set to be a huge winter hit. The Homeys certainly proved a hit in my household. I found them more comfortable than comfort food. I loved their fleecy lining and smart black and white dogtooth check upper design. My teenage son (who loves doing absolutely nothing, but rarely gets the chance) has already cast an envious eye over the Homeys. He dubbed them "cool", a reflection on their design, rather than a remark about how warm they will keep my feet this winter!
