10th anniversary for Chatham’s Washable Deck ShoesPublished: 01 February, 2007It’s 10 years since Chatham launched the first washable deck shoes. In a joint development with Prime Tanning USA, Chatham produced a waterproof leather that absorbed only 30% of the water of a normal leather when washed. The idea was an instant success and has been taken up by other brands over the years.

Centriquip, the centrifuge manufacturer from Derbyshire, has been working with its US partner, U.S. Centrifuge, to develop a way of testing boots for soldiers to make sure their feet stay dry in even the harshest conditions. The system uses a centrifuge to spin the boots around, filled with water, to prove that nothing leaks out: if nothing gets out, nothing will get in.
