A POUND FOR CUMBRIA
Published: 08 February, 2010
The floods of November 2009 in Cumbria have directly effected over 1500 households and businesses. Many families are still living in temporary accommodation and businesses are still closed severely affecting local employment.
Our New Balance Factory in Flimby is part of the area in Cumbria that has suffered so much havoc and destruction caused by the extensive flooding just before Christmas. As a show of solidarity with the local community and to ensure that the hardships they are still suffering do not fade from the nation’s consciousness we will be walking from our European Headquarters in Warrington to Dovenby Hall near Cockermouth a distance of 140 miles, passing through Wigan, Preston, Lancaster, Kendal, Windermere, Ambleside and Keswick on the way.
The ‘Pound for Cumbria’ fundraising walk will start from Warrington on Monday 22nd February and finish at Dovenby Hall, the home of the Cumbria Community Foundation just outside Cockermouth on the afternoon of Friday 26th February.
Monday 22nd February | Warrington to Preston | 30 Miles | 6.00am Start | 6.00pm Finish |
Tuesday 23rd February | Preston to Lancaster | 30 Miles | 6.00am Start | 6.00pm Finish |
Wednesday 24th February | Lancaster to Kendal | 30 Miles | 6.00am Start | 6.00pm Finish |
Thursday 25th February | Kendal to Keswick | 30 Miles | 6.00am Start | 6.00pm Finish |
Friday 26th February | Keswick to Dovenby | 20 Miles | 6.00am Start | 2.00pm Finish |
We hope this fundraising walk will help keep attention concentrated on the continuing plight of people in the local community, especially now that the television crews have left the scenes of devastation, whilst, at the same time, raise money in conjunction with the Cumbrian Foundation that does so much good work for local families, particularly in times of crisis.
We hope that you will support the 140 mile challenge and may want to make a donation to the appeal. Please visit http://justgiving.com/newbalance to support.
The European New Balance Team in Warrington and The Global Head Office in Boston have both made substantial donations to the Cumbrian Community Foundation as well as offering manpower resources in support of the Foundation.
These are difficult, distressing and very trying times for the people of Cumbria, yet we hold out hope that all of us can make a significant contribution to help them rebuild their lives and their livelihoods, regain their combined spirit and allow them a sense of hope to face the future.
It is a tough endeavour and we greatly appreciate all contributions, please give generously.
