Blue jeans turned into green sandals
Published:  01 May, 2007

Wearing your jeans on your feet is environmentally friendly on a number of levels, according to a Cumbria-based shoemaker who claims to be both sane and sober.

One of the handful of shoemaking companies still manufacturing in the UK, Softwalker Ltd has launched a new range of eco-friendly shoes and sandals based on recycled denim jeans.

After being featured on TV and in the national press Softwalker are now offering their "Re-Made in England" range to the retail sector. This includes the popular Kalahari health sandals made from stock recycled denim, as well as an easy scheme for customers (via shoe retailers) to get their own jeans turned into their own sandals!

"This is far from being just a gimmick," insists Cat Stables, the firm’s sales and marketing manager. "Our new environmental range has the lowest carbon footprint of any shoes or sandals in the country, and it’s a fun way to personalise your recycling. Shoe retailers will at last have something that looks good to offer the environmentally conscious footwear shopper".

Made in Cumbria – no forward commitments or minimum orders are necessary.
