Kidsshoefactory.co.uk Teams up with Yorkshire based Children’s Charity Candlelighters

Kids Shoe Factory has teamed up with the Yorkshire based children’s charity Candle Lighters to help raise money for the services they provide to young cancer patients and their families here in Yorkshire. Kids Shoe Factory will be sponsoring the annual Candlelighters Fun Run that will be held at Wetherby Rugby Club on 22^nd May 2011. The event will involve a fun packed family 2km run and a 5km run for the competitive folk amongst us.

For those who are not running but attending to show their support, there are many other activities for you to get involved with.

- Fire Engine and Police Display

- Mums’ and Dads’ Tag Rugby Competition

- Licensed Bar and Refreshments

As a fun and quirky addition to the day, Candlelighters have appointed a fun theme for participants to dress in fancy dress. This year it will be cartoon characters in honour of Kids Shoe Factory, the event sponsors. This is optional but prizes will be awarded for the best costume.

This years’ event is set to be the most successful yet with the growing support for George Stocker who has been a big inspiration for many of the Candle Lighter fundraising events.

George is a 12-year-old Wetherby rugby player who was diagnosed with a brain tumour in April 2008. Whilst undergoing 80 weeks of gruelling treatment George vowed to do something to help other children like himself. To date George has raised over £40k for Candlelighters and has been Yorkshire Young Achiever of the year for his determination to play rugby again and help other children

All funds raised are put directly back into the children’s cancer and leukaemia unit in Leeds and help Candle Lighters to provide essential medical equipment, support and nursing staff, as well as special facilities and entertainment for the children and their families.

It also funds vital research needed to find potential cures and treatments for the different types of cancer affecting children.

Kids Shoe Factory will be supporting Candle Lighters on the build up to the event and will be there on the day to offer their hands on support.

On the day registration starts at 11.30am, run at 1pm.
