Ellie Dickins MSSF of Ellie Dickins Shoes of Hungerford, Berkshire the outgoing President said that she had enjoyed being President so much she would like to stay on for a longer term of office!
The Council acknowledged Ellie did not get an easy time due to the change of secretariat, but for the past year with the return of Laura West to Secretary, the organisation had gone from strength to strength with new leaflets, promotional material, updated website new Associate Membership etc. Ellie has her hands full with a new children’s shoe shop opening in the same town- Diddy Dickins but is well known for her specialisation in providing footwear for ladies with larger than average feet.
The election of Council took place and Vice President Mrs. Lesley Waddy MSSF of Best Feet First, Epsom, Surrey was elected to preside as President for the next two years and guide the Society to further success. Lesley and her husband Keith have a successful children’s shoe shop in Epsom with a clientele worthy of Hello magazine. "I have been a member of the Society for many years and found the membership to be tremendously helpful to our business. Like Ellie, I have used the Society course for staff training to ensure the team receive a proper qualification, and therefore feel happy that the shop will run professionally when I am away buying or doing other things".
The position of Treasurer was handed over from Mr. John Allan of Islington (retired) to Mr. Peter Elliott MSSF of Hands, Stockport, Cheshire. Previous Treasurer Mr. Richard Ford FSSF commented "don’t be too good at it Peter or you will have a job for life". Richard is usual right about most things, and so it is good to know SSF finances are in safe hands.
Council members also consist of: Mrs. Maureen Unsworth FSSF. (Bolton), Mr. Charles Denton MSSF. (DB Shoes, Rushden), Mr. Francis Parry MSSF and Mrs. Jan Parry MSSF (Parry Shoes, Pembroke Dock) Mr. Bernard O’Brien (Luke O’Briens Shoes, Tuam), Mr. John Allan (Islington) as well as a number of Advisors to the Council.
With such a strong team all of whom consider their qualification and ‘fitting’ a vital part of their businesses to stay competitive, they will no doubt keep the Society in the eye of the trade and public for several years to come.
