Thistle & Broom collaborate with Clarks Originals

Published:  16 August, 2011

Clarks Originals has joined forces with Thistle & Broom, the unique Scottish luxury brand known for its exquisite fair trade Fair Isle knits to produce a very special limited edition boot.   Taking Clarks Originals ubiquitous Desert Boot, the style features a handcrafted and luxuriously soft Arran hand-knit cuff, reminiscent of a gentleman’s formalwear shoe spat. Creating the ultimate craft inspired icons to wear on your feet this Autumn Winter 11.

A total 1,200 pairs of the very special Desert Boots will be available. Each pair lovingly created by one of the 35 hand knitters that live across Scotland.  The knitters include a dedicated group of women between 32 and 75 years old. Knitting is a passion for these ladies including 72 year old Anita Rhind who’s been knitting since she was 2 years old. Although some of the ladies won’t admit quite how long they have been knitting, their combined experience comes to a total of more than 1269 years.

The combination of the iconic Clarks Originals sand suede 62 year old Desert Boot, blends beautifully with the cream Ardalanish Arran yarn, sourced from Ardalanish Farms and Weavers on the isle of Mull to create a sumptuous feminine boot, steeped in heritage and an appreciation for handcraft.

Each knitter adopted the Arran jumper inspired pattern using 5MM needles and a cable needle to accommodate the different size runs. Thistle & Broom products are created in the world heritage site of the historic mill village, New Lanark which is located on the banks of the River Clyde in Scotland.

If you want to sport the pure handcrafted luxury “craft look” this winter, but still haven’t mastered the polished knitting’s skills to create your own hand crafted look. Sense the passion behind every last stitch of these creations and wear with artisan pride this Autumn Winter.
