WORTMANN increases sales by 15.1 % - Record turnover of 957.7 million Euros in the past financial year

Detmold, 15 September 2011: The Wortmann Group, based in Detmold, Germanyhas announced its final figures for the past financial year 2010/11 (ending 31 May). Group turnover rose by 15.1 % to 957.7 million Euros (GBP 816.3 million). In the previous year, total turnover amounted to 832.1 million Euros. With a record rise of over 125 million Euros, the business group achieved the highest growth rate in the company's history.

Wortmann marked this extraordinary achievement by paying its employees an additional month's salary as a special bonus. The export ratio of 52.7 % rose slightly in comparison with the previous year (51.8 %). Nearly all export markets are moving towards double digit growth rates. Wortmann recorded the strongest growth rates inRussia, the Benelux countries andFrance. Turnover outsideEurope is also on course for success with single digit growth rates for Novi Footwear Fareast Ltd in Hong Kong/Singapore. Shoes produced by the Wortmann Group are sold in over 15,000 shoe shops and in over 70 countries worldwide.

Tamaris, which has received a number of different marketing awards, has now become the top brand in the Wortmann Group and is moving forward with its franchise concept. There are currently 519 active Tamaris franchises (compared with 359 last year), of which 164 are mono-label stores and 355 are shop-in-shops. This represents an increase of around 45 %. In addition, a further 19 stores and 26 shop-in-shops are planned and are already under contract. Approximately 35 % of retail outlets are currently operated outsideGermany. With a marketing budget in the double digit million range, Tamaris is the largest of all European shoe manufacturers. From the autumn / winter 2011 season there will also be the first collection of licensed Tamaris products in the fashion, jewellery and watch segment. The new collections will initially be launched as a mail order operation.

With a shoe sales volume of 29.8 million pairs in the fashion sector and 34.1 million pairs in the standard range, the Wortmann Group ranks as the largest manufacturer, distributor and retailer of footwear in Europe. European brands which are part of the group include Tamaris, Marco Tozzi, Caprice, Jana and s.Oliver Shoes, as well as Novi Footwear in Asia. Wortmann has its own companies in nine locations in Europe and a further eleven companies in theFar East. Internationally, the company currently has 978 employees (compared with 868 last year), of which 549 are inEurope. Worldwide, a workforce of over 30,000 is involved in manufacturing for theDetmold based Wortmann Group.

For the first half year of the current business year 2011/2012 (autumn / winter season 2011/12), Wortmann again expects a double digit growth rate. Furthermore, the spring / summer collection 2012 has been on sale since July of this year. According to the first available figures, there is a feeling of confidence inDetmoldthat in 2012 the company will again be able to continue the success story of the preceding years.
