'Easy b' takes the 'Slip' out of Slipper…
Published:  01 June, 2007

Slippers hit the national headlines recently when a Slipper Amnesty campaign was introduced by the Charity Age Concern. Elderly people were urged to stop wearing worn out and potentially dangerous footwear around the house. We all tend to keep slippers long after their 'sell by' date has expired, enjoying their comfort and familiarity, however a worn sole and little support can be a recipe for disaster.

Research has shown that a third of all people over 65 will trip or fall each year, with even higher rates for those above the age of 75. These accidents are often caused by worn slippers and unfortunately it is the most likely accident that people of this age group will have.

With these potential dangers in mind DB Shoes, in close consultation with medical practitioners, have developed a special 'house shoe' designed to help reduce falls in the home. Combining the comfort of the traditional slipper with the increased support and stability of a shoe it is ideal for both indoor and outdoor use.

Available in EE, 4E, 6E and 8E fittings, the 'easy b' House Shoe incorporates a shoe stiffener to give the increased essential ankle support needed and a shoe insole to reduce torsional flexibility. A removable sock comes as standard to allow for extra depth or orthotic insertion if required.

This is an ongoing problem, creating a new market in which retailers can become involved in providing a solution, helping their elderly customers stay safe within their homes!
