Hush Puppies introduce ‘Hemingway Design for Hush Puppies’

Published:  21 February, 2012

Hush Puppies are proud to introduce their first premium British footwear collection for AW12 with the introduction of ‘Hemingway Design for Hush Puppies’ a standalone men’s footwear collection ‘Inspired by British Club Culture and Hush Puppies Iconic Heritage’.

Founded in 1958, the Hush Puppies brand has been omnipresent throughout fifty years of footwear fashion and subculture and it’s this authentic footwear heritage that sees a new relationship flourish with curators of British Culture, Hemingway Design, the creative team behind The Vintage Festival, founded by Wayne Hemingway MBE and Gerardine Hemingway Hemingway MBE.

Spearheaded by Jack Hemingway, the collaboration sees Hush Puppies aesthetic and quality throughout cult eras of style, combined with Hemingway’s fresh interpretation of heritage trends.  Speaking about the collection Jack Hemingway said; “We haven’t just reproduced the iconic styles from the brand, instead we’ve taken the best bits of Hush Puppies and brought them up to date.  The collection is an homage to the great moments in British fashion but placed in a modern context for today’s fashion conscious consumer.”  He continued, “We (Hemingway) have an affinity with credible vintage trends and styling and wanted to partner with a footwear company who could add to the authenticity of our design concepts and values – Hush Puppies have always been a key footwear choice among varying subcultures throughout the past five decades so it was an easy decision for us to make.”

The AW12 Hemingway for Hush Puppies collection debuts with a refined line of men’s Brogues, Desert Boots, Chelsea Boots and Brothel Creepers, featuring crepe, gum, stacked and bespoke coloured soles teamed with tonal Wolverine pigskin and suedes, contrast stitching and authentic design details.  Consisting of 8 individual styles, with names including Quadro, Quiff, Greaser and Teddy (totalling 27 SKUS) the premium line will be available for limited distribution to leading UK fashion and footwear retailers and will be supported with customised vintage POS, to include original 1950s Dansette record players, with each installation created on a one to one basis to cater for each retailers needs.

Julie Bradley, EMEA Marketing Manager for Hush Puppies, commented; “The Hemingway’s relationship with Hush Puppies is completely authentic, from Wayne & Gerardine’s personal experience of the brand, to their unique relationship with Vintage and iconic British style, through to the next generation’s interpretation of those original brands and trends.” Speaking on the line’s development Bradley said, “Jack brings a completely fresh edge and energy to Hush Puppies and we’re looking forward to building a strong future with the Hemingway for Hush Puppies line.”  She continued, “Jack is involved in every aspect from design to overseeing production in Portugal, and his creative direction is apparent throughout, from shooting the ‘real faces’ of the young vintage scene with esteemed music photographer Dean Chalkley to the striking shoe boxes and working directly with key retailers to support their instore concepts’.

The Hemingway Design for Hush Puppies collection ranges from £ 53.17 to £60.40 (whs) with suggested retail prices from £110 to £125, with product arriving in stores early September 2012.  For all stockist enquiries contact Simon Mabey on 0207 860 0459, or email:simon.mabey@wwwinc.com
