Somebody must be doing something right. For nearly sixty years a first shoe designed by a company that has only ever manufactured children's shoes is still going strong.
The founder, George Bidegain began making children's shoes in 1936 and by 1949 it was his philosophy “that every child has a right to good, well fitting shoes”; that enabled the birth of Babybotte.
Babybotte very quickly became the baby shoe on the continent; even Florence of 'the magic round about' wore them!
This is a company that takes children's foot health seriously. Babybotte still make their own lasts by hand. Continuing in its commitment to children's foot health in 1959 Bidegain developed a truly corrective yet stylish sister brand Le Loup Blanc where all the shoes are designed to take any type of medical insert.
Having educated and captured their customers with correctly fitted first shoes Bidegain recognised that our increasingly opinionated offspring can sometime take over and developed its 3rd brand to cater for children during the vital period of growth between the ages of 3-10. Originally known as Trotty the brand was re-launched in '99 as TTY. Trend conscious yet carefully designed to withstand the rigours young children subject their growing feet to.
Historically Bidegain have been careful to distribute Babybotte through retailers trained in children's shoe fitting. In doing so they achieved the same 'marketing stature' for the brand that can otherwise only be claimed by the likes of Clarks and Start-rite. A 'proper' first shoe beautifully made with contempory French style.
Like the magic roundabout this once famed brand has faded somewhat in recognition to today's generation of parents. Florence and her chums have been replaced by 'pumped up' super heroes in trainers. They have their place but remember Florence grew up to have beautiful feet……
