On June 27th, 28th, and 29th, the International Golf Championship of the Shoe, Leather and Allied Trades was played at the Vale Hotel Golf and Spa Resort, on the Hensol Castle Estate in the Vale of Glamorgan.
Despite the appalling weather in June, the event managed a large amount of sunshine and only two showers. almost one hundred competitors took part, competing for the main Championship Trophies and the Regional Trophies.
At the Banquet on the Thursday evening everyone was entertained by Owen Money, a well know Welsh entertainer. Richard Paice, President of the FBS now known as Footwear Friends, and Roy Winnard, President of the LHTBI received cheques from Geoffrey Mawer on behalf of the Championship. Last year’s contributions being £9000 and £5000 respectively.
Three competitors had the same score at the top of the leader board, and a count back revealed Jeremy Palser from Hotbrands Ltd. as the Champion, with Kevin Knights from Start-rite as Runner Up, and Rob Williams from Pacific Brands (UK) Ltd was third.
The Ladies Champion was Susie O’Brien from County Galway in Eire, and the Runner Up for the second year was Kate James from Northampton.
The Wilbur Muirhead Scratch Cup was retained by Craig Hamilton from Barnard Castle, and the Veterans Champion was Peter Gardiner from Stroud, with Andrew Wilkinson from Leicestershire, the Under 35’s Champion.
The International Match for the Bridge of Weir Trophy was won by England & Wales Captained by Angus Winfield, beating Scotland & Ireland captained by Gordon Wilson, 3 & 2.

Next year the Championship is in Lancashire at Hillside Golf Club and Formby Hall on June 11th, 12, & 13th 2008.
