Leading brand house Pentland Brands has cut its carbon footprint and upped its service levels thanks to an Advanced distribution service. The company, which owns brands such as Speedo, Ellesse, Berghaus, Mitre, Red or Dead and Boxfresh, has consolidated its bulk delivery operation in the UK.
The aim of the change was to reduce vehicle movements and improve delivery performance to its retail customers.
The company’s logistics division, Pentland Distribution Services, chose fashion specialists Advanced to run the operation after an exhaustive tender process.
Operations Director Stephen Draper said: “This is a win-win situation for Pentland and we’ve achieved it by consolidating operations across our 13 brands.
“We’ve been able to improve service levels at no cost to ourselves, reduce our administrative burden and cut the number of trucks delivering into DCs.”
The key to making all this possible was the Advanced Transport Management System (ATMS), which allows customers to organise their own groupage online.
Advanced chief executive Mike Danby explained: “Our system was specifically designed with the needs of the fashion industry in mind.
“Many companies choose to run their brands as standalone business units, but this shouldn’t mean they miss out on opportunities to gain economies of scale.
“We worked hand-in-hand with Pentland to develop this feature of the system and the benefits are already being felt across the business and the wider environment.”
