Gore-tex® Products Climate Cube
Published:  01 October, 2007

GORE-TEX® footwear is not only widely known for providing reliable protection against water and snow, but also for delivering ultimate climate comfort. GORE-TEX® footwear keeps feet dry and ensures a pleasant inner climate, whatever the weather and whatever the activity. Thanks to GORE-TEX® footwear with XCR® technology this now also applies to running and travel shoes, even in summer.

In order to demonstrate the impressive performance of their footwear technology, Gore have developed the GORE-TEX® products Climate Cube a unique demonstration tool that can detect the climate comfort of GORE-TEX® footwear in a matter of minutes.

Consumers stand comfortably in a transparent, ankle-high cube made of Plexiglas®. With the help of various jets and aeration slits different weather conditions can be simulated. Jet sprays squirt out water at the tester’s footwear and yet thanks to the GORE-TEX® membrane their feet remain perfectly dry. Heat and severe frost can also be simulated. To complete the demonstration, the tester is shown images and sounds to simulate various activities such as a jog, a city break and even a motorcycling trip.

The GORE-TEX® products Climate Cube was used for the first time during summer 2006 at the “Salomon Gore Experience Tour“ in mainland Europe. Five of these high-tech devices are now in use in 2007 – at trade fairs, and at retail and consumer events. What is demonstrated in the climate cube in a few minutes can take days in the GORE-TEX® footwear laboratory: where boots and shoes are regularly tested on specially engineered machines to ensure that they are durably waterproof and extremely breathable.
