Shoe carousel creates a stir
Published:  15 November, 2007

A stunning shoe carousel incorporating a British Turntable display revolve is creating a stir at Start's Rivington Street store in London, where it is being used to highlight the store's attractive range of footwear available in the womenswear department.

Consisting of a MDF carcass finished in mirror tiles and mounted on a Mini Carousel, the moving display adds impact to the retail area as the mirror tiles sparkle under the store lighting, bringing energy to the display area and attracting more attention than a static display would do.

The multi-tiered display was designed by Philip Oakley, a freelance designer who works in retail outlets, bars and clubs. “The concept behind the carousel was to produce something that sparkled a little,” explains Philip Oakley, “so we used a combination of mirror tiles and a carousel to create a display with the feel of a mirror ball, but that was also practical.

“As retail shops can get stale very quickly, we like to move things about and chop and change furniture in the stores, so sometimes the carousel is in the window and other times it's inside the shop to change focus and highlight different areas.”

The Mini Carousel at the centre of the display is available from British Turntable's standard range of display movement, which incorporates more than 100 units. Portable and versatile, the Mini Carousel is a particularly popular choice because of its superb display potential, the extension arms and legs provided providing it with the ability to carry loads up to 1.5m wide, 1.5m high and up to 227kg in weight. It is also available for short term hire for temporary promotions, while extra options such as static centre, positional or timed hesitation and oscillation can be provided on request.
