MOCADALZADO + IBERPIEL, the International Footwear and Leather Fashion Trade Fair, staged its twentieth edition at Feria de Madrid between 27th and 29th September.
The event was largely a success and despite Spanish attendance falling by some 7%, international visitors were on the up and the high purchasing power of those who did attend was evident throughout the event.
Amparo Miralles, the Marketing Head at Pedro Miralles said:"we have had a good fair". For his part, Miguel Ángel Amigot, the Marketing Head of the company, Salvador Sapena, stated that the company's participation at MODACALZADO + IBERPIEL "was positive, especially in terms of our policy of expansion and growth throughout Spain".
Anna Meyer from Pepe Shoes said: "Sipiel has been a really positive event for us and one we look to return to season on season. We have now launched the footwear range on the UK as well as Europe and have seen buyers from various places here, as well as Spain."
In addition to exhibitors from 16 countries, the attendance of 3,093 visitors from abroad was positive and was encouraged by the fair organisers' Buyers Programme, an initiative that attracted a group of 41 professionals to the fair from Russia, the United States, the United Arab Emirates and from Poland.
Portugal was once again the country that sent the largest number of professionals to the fair, based on a total of 1,319 visitors. Other countries such as Italy (304), Greece (224), France (184) and Russia (72) achieved record figures for the fair.
Furthermore, the growing international appeal of the fair was confirmed by the a ttendance of visitors from less traditional markets, such as those of Latin America, accounting for 132 buyers, and the Middle East.
A POSITIVE IMAGE
The show was characterised by the event's new layout. The fair presented a new structure, with brands being grouped together according to category and style.
Exhibitors received the new layout well, Juan Vilodre, from Olimpo felt that the new layout was positive, "because it places each brand alongside others of a similar level". Miguel Ángel Amigot, from Salvador Sapena, shared this opinion, believing the measure to have been successful.
Staged to coincide with the trade exhibition, Modacalzado + IBERPIEL provided the setting for two other interesting exhibitions. The Austrian company, Swarovski staged a spectacular exhibition in which it presented a collection of shoes made of glass, the exhibition entitled "Mírame, Mírame" ("Look at Me! Look at Me!"), organised by the Footwear Museum of Elda, projected a series of images of different photographic works in which clothing and footwear featured prominently.
The next edition of MODACALZADO + IBERPIEL will take place between 7th and 9th March 2008, based on a Friday-Sunday timetable.
