Sole Technology, parent company to top action sports brands etnies, éS, Emerica, Altamont and ThirtyTwo, announced their official enlistment with the Action Sports Environmental Coalition (ASEC) during the Action Sports Retailer trade show. Under the leadership of CEO and founder Pierre André Senizergues, Sole Technology’s membership with ASEC is an added endeavor by both to further strengthen and inspire the action sports industry to value and take action toward social and environmental responsibility.
“Sole Technology has always been a strong supporter of ASEC and we’re excited to be an official member,” says Senizergues. “It’s important we all work together in the action sports industry to make a huge impact, as we are all action sports enthusiasts and look to the environment – the ocean, the mountains, the air – to be the platform for our passions in life. “
In 2000, Sole Technology began making changes to protect the environment in their business practices, including the concept and building of their eco-friendly Research & Design office building, the installation of 616 solar panels, the conversion to water-based cement manufacturing, company-wide recycling efforts, the addition of the firstever environmental affairs manager and the launch of a sustainable footwear and apparel collection, the etnies SEED Project. Sole Technology recently added to its list the conversion to waterless urinals at its headquarters to promote water conservation. Saving up to 250,000 gallons of water each year, that’s equivalent to approximately an Olympic size swimming pool, three million cups of coffee, and what matters most to the action sports industry, two and a half million bottles of beer.
In lining up with the new affiliation, Warner Independent Pictures, Senizergues and ASR hosted a special screening of “The 11th Hour,” the highlyanticipated documentary recently released, August 2007. Senizergues teamed up with Leonardo DiCaprio and Tree Media as the film’s Executive Producer in hopes to create awareness and discussion around the environmental issues we are currently facing. Immediately following the screening was a special Q & A panel, with members including Senizergues, “The 11th Hour” director Leila Conners Peterson, ASEC Executive Director Frank Scura, and head of ASR Andy Tompkins.
