London, February 2008. New Balance has ignited keen interest and created an enormous buzz at the Pitti trade show in Florence with the re-launch of the brand's legendary 991 model. This shoe, made in the UK at the company's factory in Flimby with added leather applications provided in Italy, was one of New Balance's most enduring series of running shoes in the 80's and 90's.
In 1982, when New Balance first started production in the UK, the 990 was the first shoe to be priced at $100 and that was replaced by the highly regarded 991 in the 90's.
Now in 2008 the 991 has made a dramatic comeback. Hand crafted in Flimby with premium, full grain Italian leather complimented with a stylish suede and mesh combination this model has really drawn the crowds.
Commenting on the renaissance of the all-popular 991 Jonathan Ram, New Balance's Managing Director for Europe, Middle East and Africa said: "New Balance have a history of craftsmanship that dates back over 100 years and the company's enterprise and innovation has been responsible for landmark developments as the sport made its technological advances."
He continued: "We have been hand building shoes in the UK for over 25 years and those techniques we have developed and now employ has enabled us to maintain the tradition of classic quality. Now, the shoes that were state-of-the art masterpieces at the time they were first engineered, have been exquisitely refashioned and relaunched as timeless examples of models that broke the mould then to become the original legendary shoes of today. The 991 is a fine example of that pedigree"
