Wortmann continues to expand
Over 740 Million in the current fiscal year
Published:  16 April, 2008

Wortmann Schuh-Holding KG, Detmold has announced the figures for the first half year (01.06. to 30.11.2007) of the current fiscal year as well as the preliminary figures for the entire fiscal year 2007/08 (31.05.) based on current orders. During the first six months Wortmann achieved a turnover of 359.3 million (GBP 257 million) (a plus of 8.5 %). The group is currently expecting a total consolidated turnover for the entire fiscal year of over 740 million (GBP 530 million).

The total turnover for the previous year amounted to 684.8 million. This amounts to a plus of over 55 million or growth of more than 8%. The increase in turnover would have amounted to over 10% if exchange rates were unvarying. With a 13% increase in domestic business, Wortmann's growth clearly exceeded the market rate. The export quota lies by 55%. Wortmann shoes are sold in over 70 countries worldwide.

Due to the dynamic development, some capacity bottlenecks were experienced in the international production markets during the last Autumn-Winter season. This has turned out to be one of the largest challenges for the coming year. An important objective for Wortmann is therefore the continuous expansion of production capacities, especially for the rapidly growing fashion sector. The maintenance or further improvement of the currently achieved level of quality is however more important than a growth in quantity.

The Tamaris system partnership is still proving to be especially successful. During the last two years it has been the fastest growing partner-run concession concept in the shoe sector. For 2008 there are currently 160 shop-in-shop areas (80 last year) installed or under contract, 76 of these in single brand stores. The focus lies in the realisation of single brand stores, this will give Wortmann an extremely high level of concession productivity compared with the rest of the sector. Tamaris stores are now being operated Europe wide. The expansion of the concession concept is being supported by an intensive brand campaign for the Tamaris label including eight figure investments each year. Wortmann is therefore one of the top European spenders in the shoe industry sector.
