Finally Eco-footwear is crossing over into the fashion mainstream. The Empathy range of pumps from Softwalker is made in the UK from largely recycled materials. But unlike many other eco products the shoes look young, fresh, and appealing, as well as having just about the lowest carbon footprint of any footwear on the market. The satin finish fabric uppers come in a range of vivid patterns produced by young UK textile designers. But these uppers are directly moulded onto slimline soles based on recovered pvc scrap, other recycled polymers, and even redundant shopping trolley wheels!
Cat Stables, Softwalker's marketing manager says "We reckon Empathy will help extend the appeal of green footwear, beyond the Fair Trade and Ethical Clothing sectors and firmly into the High Street. Many shoppers in our experience think that Eco products always look organic or dull - and we are out to change that if we can."
Because of short supply lines, direct from the factory delivery, and the use of recycled materials, Empathy footwear can be priced competitively against other fashion pumps. Retailers can select, or even design their own upper patterns, which are then dye printed onto the fabric as part of the manufacturing process in Softwalker's Cumbrian factory.
