Dear Members

As we await further news from Rt Hon Alok Sharma, Home Secretary at 5pm today, I want to assure members that the BFA is lobbying hard on your behalf insisting that government provides real support for you and your staff at this critical time.

I have written to the Home Secretary demanding a meeting so that I can explain the unparalleled challenges facing the footwear industry in this moment. I have explained that businesses are already reporting down-turns of 50%; and that, following discussions with many of you today, there is an expectation of a drop in business by as much as 80% in the next week.

I am working on the technology so that we will be able to offer a webinar discussion across our membership. Please look out for information on this in the next 48 hours.

In addition, I am establishing “What’s App” groups for members to enter into discussions with each other. I will write to you individually with an invitation to join a group related to your primary activity within the sector. You should receive an invitation by end of tomorrow.

The BFA will continue to support you through this current crisis and will remain at the end of the phone even if myself and the rest of the team are working from home.

Best regards,

Lucy
