Footwear retailer Gail White was born in Grimsby Lincolnshire on 11th April
1956 and died suddenly at Yeovil Hospital, Somerset, on 6th October 2015. Gail suffered a brain haemorrhage, from which, despite the doctors’ best efforts, she sadly never recovered. Gail leaves husband, Steve and 22 year old son Martin, who still
lives in the family home.
Gail and Steve met seven years ago and married five years ago. In October 2011 the couple bought the Ivor Coram shoe shop in Sidmouth, Devon, changing its name to White & Son Shoes @ Sidmouth. Steve’s family previously owned a shoe shop in Dorchester dating from the 1880’s, which he closed after going into business with his wife.
Steve recalls how Gail really enjoyed going to Moda and stockrooms, helping with buying and making some great friends in the shoe trade. It is evident by the number of companies represented at Gail’s funeral last month how popular she was in the shoe trade. A modest person by nature, Steve commented that Gail would not have understood why so many turned up to celebrate her life.
“Gail had a wicked sense of humour, always laughing and smiling”, said Steve “With record figures at the shop in 2015, it had been a brilliant year for us, we expanded our premises and had great plans for the future.”
Gail loved gardening and joining Steve on his motorbike, visiting many parts of the UK and competing in motorcycle scatter rallies all over the UK.“Behind every man is a good woman, never a truer word spoken”, said Steve.
