LUNAR – “It’s a clear winner”

Retailers throughout the UK are reporting yet another Summer season of amazing sales from award winning Ladies Footwear brand LUNAR, with customers grabbing the stylish and immensely comfortable range even before it hits the shop floor.

After recently winning 2016 Fashion Brand of the Year and stealing Highly Commended Women’s Brand of the Year at Footwear Industry Awards, LUNAR’s focus on producing something different continues to pay off, as more and more retailers race to become stockists of the British brand.

Since the beginning of 2016, LUNAR continued its rapid growth, opening more than 70 new stockists, with regular requests from new retailers to stock the brand in towns where the brand is already present.  In the South, Helen from Eden Home and Boutique in Christchurch, Dorset agreed by saying, “We are so lucky to be a LUNAR stockist.  We just can’t get enough sandals this season, we have made so many repeat orders.  When we get a delivery we have customers grabbing them before we can get them on the sales floor!  It is no surprise that LUNAR won best fashion brand of the year – it’s a clear winner in our boutique!”.

Emma Molyneux from Experience in Fleet, Hampshire, said her LUNAR customers never said, “I don’t need another pair of shoes!”, complementing the brand further by saying, “LUNAR, the shoes that sell themselves, affordable designer looks – a retailers dream!”

In the South West, long term stockist J Shoes (Wadebridge and Padstow) spoke of LUNAR, with Jason Bosley commenting, “LUNAR offers a varied range of shoes for both the young and older customer”,”….Lunar stands as one of our strongest brands” and “We have a good working relationship with LUNAR, which stems from their professional approach to business. The manner in which they conduct themselves has been first class from back office staff to their sales representatives.”

Behind Clouds owner Liz Saunders, in Somerset, a relative newcomer to the shoe trade, said, “I have found LUNAR extremely good value and of high quality. The staff are more than helpful and friendly and any problems – which are few – are sorted quickly and efficiently.  So pleased I stock LUNAR….. 10\10”

In the Midlands, Chris Hart from Charles Ager in Coventry said that, “LUNAR sits well with many of the other premium brands”,”pricing gives us the opportunity to offer a good retail price whilst also making a good margin”,”its no surprise they won (award)”.

Room for shoes in Loughborough, are one of the newest stockists of LUNAR. Steve and Hannah Holmes commented, “LUNAR offer something a bit different while still providing comfort. The styles are pretty and feminine yet practical. My customers have loved the combination of stylish uppers and padded comfortable footbeds.  Charlotte is one of my best selling sandals and I have had to repeat throughout the season. LUNAR combines fashion and comfort while maintaining competitive price points. Many brands are trying to achieve that at the moment but LUNAR have the right balance. They also appeal to a wide age range which helps to increase sales.

In the North, Adam Peacock from Classic Touch also spoke highly of the brand saying, “People like to be different at a good reasonable price”,” Very solid collection which is fun, stylish and comfortable”.

In Scotland, Gordon Brian, Owner of Critchtons Shoes in Hamiton, explained his reasons for buying LUNAR.  “We buy LUNAR shoes as they offer modern, fashionable styling at attractive prices for the consumer, whilst giving us good margins for profit.  Our customers are as price conscious as ever and with the LUNAR brand they can get designer look, but at affordable high street prices”,” they hold good stock with an easy to use website for re-ordering”.

In Northern Ireland, Colm Coleman from Flairline said that their business had been within their ‘target zone’, however, “(LUNAR) clean patent court collection was a real success”, and, “Sandals were the real winner this year the good weather in the month of May/early June lifted the brands business for me very significantly”

Yvonne from The Waterford Shoe Centre agreed by saying, “We have found Lunar to be our best selling Summer brand for the second year in a row!  Their back -up service is second to none and being able to fill in (single) sizes rather than buy  cartons is fantastic. Lunar certainly deserve to win Fashion Brand of the Year!”

LUNAR’s huge growth over the past few years, coupled with high retail margins and low returns rate has clearly made its mark in the industry, with the awards clarifying their position as one of the top footwear brands in the UK.

Commenting on the awards, Managing Director Michael Rye, who accepted the Fashion Brand of the Year award, earlier this year, said, “GRS has been involved with footwear for five generations.  Since 1880, when my great great grandfather George Rye sold his first line, our family has always been proud to be part of the industry.  However, we’ve always done our own thing, concentrating on producing good quality footwear at a price where retailers can make a healthy margin.  In nearly 140 years, my family has never received an award like this and I am very proud of what my family, and our team, have achieved in this time.  I wholeheartly thank our loyal retailers for granting us with this award”.

Director and Son, Martin Rye agreed by saying, “I’ve often said, when we did our first show and took our first bulk set of orders  I thought we’d made it.  Several years on, I honestly couldn’t have seen how big our brand was going to become.  We spend a huge amount of time on design and ensuring that our range is not only commercial, but well made, a formula which has ensured our brand has grown and grown and grown.  However, we keep our feet firmly on the ground and realise that our brand wouldn’t be the success it is without the support of our 1000+ stockists – naturally, i cant thank them enough for their support with this award.”

LUNAR will be appearing again MODA Footwear in August at stand E20 on 7th, 8th and 9th August, plus also at the INDX show at Cranmore Park, Birmingham on 3rd, 4th an 5th August.  The brand will also be appearing at several roadshows around the country.
